Short answer
Choose an Arizona 3PL by matching its capacity, location, technology and specialties to your freight. Confirm it has room for your peak volume, handles your product type, integrates with your systems, and offers clear pricing, service levels and contract terms. Visit the building and ask for references from similar customers.
1. Match the provider to your freight
Some warehouses are built for full pallets and truckloads, others for small parcel e-commerce orders. Ask what share of their business looks like yours. A great B2B warehouse can be a poor fit for a direct-to-consumer brand, and the reverse is also true.
2. Check capacity for your peak
Your average volume is not the number that matters. Ask whether the provider can absorb your busiest month, and how quickly it can add space or labor.
3. Location and carrier access
Where your customers are drives which part of the Valley makes sense. West Valley sites are close to Interstate 10 west and port freight; East Valley sites are close to East Valley customers; central Phoenix is close to Sky Harbor. Ask which carriers pick up daily and what the cutoff times are.
4. Technology and visibility
- Real-time inventory access through a portal
- Integrations with your store, marketplace, ERP or EDI
- Order tracking and exception alerts
- Clear monthly invoices that tie back to activity
5. Service levels in writing
Ask for written targets on receiving time, order accuracy, same-day ship cutoffs and inventory accuracy, and what happens when they are missed.
6. Contract terms
Look at term length, minimums, rate increases, liability limits, insurance, and the cost and notice needed to move out. Flexible terms are worth a lot when your business is growing.
7. Visit and ask for references
A walk-through tells you more than a sales deck. Look for clean aisles, clear labeling and organized docks, and talk to a customer with similar freight.
